Dutch firm redraws Asterisk connectivity map

By releasing the first fully functional CSTA III XML interface for open source Asterisk called Asterisk Connect the Netherlands based distributor Technetworks B.V. – www.technetworks.eu – has redrawn the connectivity map for Asterisk.

This industry standard interface paves the way for deployment of Asterisk in the enterprise. Technetworks already successfully connected JDM’s peterConnects Attendant and effectively added enterprise grade attendant functionality to Asterisk.

Asterisk connectivity map
With Asterisk Connect the full capabilities of Asterisk will be unleashed on enterprise business applications and vice-versa, new communication options are vast.
Imagine the combination of Asterisk and the full Unified Communication features of Microsoft OCS; Instant Messaging, Presence, Pop-ups and many more.
Click-to-Dial and dossier presentation - based on incoming phone call – will enhance Customer Relationship Management (CRM) applications with Asterisks’ call capabilities.

Integrated communication has never been this easy.

Easy to implement
The Asterisk Connect interface needs few additions to the Asterisk dialplan and runs in coexistence with virtually any Asterisk dialplan. This opens the Asterisk world in a way never seen before as most interfaces need many special adjustments to the Asterisk dialplan and therefore are hard to implement.

Call flow detection
One of the main problems with Presence information in Asterisk has always been to detect transfer events. This can be done by adding code to your dialplan. This makes dialplans needlessly complex to set up and maintain. Asterisk Connect has solved this issue by tracking the full call flow on a lower level. This circumvents the need for a separate transfer agent.

Software Development Kit
Asterisk Connect is available for developers as Software Development Kit. Technetworks aims to expand the ecosystem around Asterisk extensively and encourages co-operation with parties in the industry to open Asterisk for their solutions.

Roadmap
Just to give a glimpse of future developments based on Asterisk Connect; the Asterisk and Microsoft OCS integration is planned for mid 2009.
